Review - Counterfeit Zeiss Conquest Scope

After seeing the thread on the counterfeit Zeiss Conquest scopes, I decided to place a small ($25) bid on one. To my amazement, I actually one the thing (most people seem to be putting in bids upwards of $150-250...). Anyway it arrived yesterday and I took a quick look at it.

My initial impressions are somewhat positive so far. I didn't take any fancy unboxing video or anything like that and unless requested, I'm not going to take any photos either.

The finish seems to be ok, I guess only time will tell though. No bubbles or unfinished areas in the paint.

When I got it, I did notice that the objective lens was loose but a quick turn of a ring and it was all snug again.

The turrets have nice positive clicks to them and the locking feature does seem to work well. The turret markings are also very easy to read.

The focusing bell around the front of the scope, while functional, does remind me of a cheap scope (Tasco and Bushnell Banner come to mind, as does Simons). Another thing to note is that the focus ring will also turn the scope covers. Not a huge deal, but still something that could be an issue for some.

The tube diameter is 1" as listed in the ad, however the objective diameter is listed as 50mm but is actually 55 (scope's supposed to be a 6-24x50).

The scope comes with a sunshade, scope covers (front and rear) and rings (w/allen key). The sunshade seem solid, and it screwed on well. The rings seem to be the typical ones that are prevalent across Ebay, a "tactical" 4 bolt design and a 2 bolt base clamp. The rings have a couple small squares of rubber in them, I guess to reduce the chances of marring the scope tubes. The scope covers feel cheap, but they do seem to lock closed quite well.

Lastly, the illumination feature and the reticle itself. The reticle seems thick to me, while it is a mildot, it's definitely not a fine mildot and would most likely cover any target at real distance. The illumination has various levels of brightness, in both red and green. Under the maximum brightness setting, it's incredibly bright and in my opinion, would be more of a distraction than a benefit. In the lower/lowest brightness settings though, it seems fine.

This is an initial impression of the scope, I have yet to mount it (still debating between my Norinco 223 bolt or my Rem 700 SPS 223). Once I get some field use and time behind the scope, I'll update this review or make a new one.

On this :p -

The objective size is probably referring to the lens diameter rather than the outside tube diameter.

You didn't comment on the quality of the glass...?

I can't comment on the quality of the glass just yet. Our sunrise and sunset all happen while I'm at work. I'll give a glass review soon though. However I did make the comment that the objective lens was loose and rattling when I received the scope haha.
