Review Kahles 624i

nice review.. out of curiosity, do you know which gen the Kahles was? I'm seeing south of the border that they are starting to review the Gen3's which has supposedly addressed some of the short comings of the previous 2.

It's a Gen III, model 10616.

Even though, Kahles has a limited lifetime warranty it only applies to the optical system. All other parts warranted for 10 years. Past ten years of use, all repairs are handled on a case by case basis.

Here is a copy of the Kahles Warranty (the warranty is transferrable):

Thank you for purchasing this instrument and welcome to the world of KAHLES. Since our founding in 1898, the KAHLES community has been committed to providing an ownership experience, which includes our legendary service that is second to none. We sincerely believe that our optics are the best in the world and put them through rigorous tests to ensure that the name you trust is built to the highest standards. But in the unlikely event that you discover a problem in defects in workmanship or materials, we will gladly examine the instrument. KAHLES offers a lifetime warranty on the optical system for products purchased by US residents from an authorized North American dealer. Once examined, if it is determined that the optical system is defective we will repair or replace the instrument or defective part. KAHLES warrants all other parts of the instrument for ten years from the date of purchase against defects in materials or workman- ship, subject to normal use. All electronic components are warranted for two years against defects in materials and workmanship, subject to normal use, from the date of purchase. All non-optical products (i.e. accessories, tripods etc.) are warranted for one year from date of purchase. This warranty is void if damage results from unauthorized repairs, accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, neglect, fire, flood or other acts of God.

I would also mention the red indicator for the second rotation of elevation turret. Very cool feature!

As for the sunshade, it's available for a purchase as a separate accessory (link). Of course, when we pay $4K, it sounds weird but at least the sunshade is available if needed.

Great review as always Bob!!

I am stoked that you were able to review a Kahles as it is in my top three for a next purchase optic!

However as good as these high end scopes are, I am all about the eye box (ease of sight picture) these days. The Kahles is said to only be second to Hensoldt in this department and that the sight picture on the Kahles is outstanding and just pops up when you get behind the rifle.

My question to you is: How does the sight picture "poping up" when you shoulder the rifle compare to the NF and the Vortex?

You have not been misinformed the sight picture really does pop up when compared to, say, NXS. The NF ATACR is no slouch in this regard either by the way if you want to stick with NF.

Right on thanks Bob. Your opinion on the clarity of the glass is very helpful as well as there are a few articles out there about CA problems regarding earlier generations of K624i's. Thanks for taking the time to do a great review.

Good review as always.

That is one thing we have in Canada over our neighbors to the south, we get "cheaper" high end Euro glass. I just bought a Kahles K16i for less CAD then they pay in USD in the US. Gotta take the perks where we can!

Wheeew....what a relief!

I've been waiting for your review quite awhile now. I bought mine last summer and really like it. I couldn't compare with other top end scopes side by side only looking through others scopes over the past few years (S&B, Theta, Vortex) and doing the comparisons by memory.Oh yeah , and I own two Nightforce scopes, sharp images but some how not as "bright" as even my 20year old Swarovski hunting scope.Out to 600yds I can spot bullet holes better with my Kahles at 24 than with my Swarovski spotter at 60x on rainy, overcast days (the only kind of weather most days on the island).I had worries that you would report some "fatal flaw" in my Precious! Thanks for your report.
