Review: Marlin 336C - Is it worth buying in 2019?

I have a Marlin 336C chambered in 35 Remington in 2017...fit and finish are great and has always fired when I pull the trigger. When I do my part she is dead on out to 100 yds. I replaced the Buckhorn sights with Skinner Sights....my favourite whitetail deer rifle.

Quality control has improved vastly since the days when Remington took over Marlin. The new models I'm familiar with were excellent in fit, finish and function. Don't listen to the naysayers. I'd buy a new one in a heartbeat.

That is what I have heard also. Mine is ok (built in 2014). Not terrible, not perfect. Nothing that will bother me though

I really want to get the Skinner express sights with a taller front sight post

Did you need to replace the front sight post also?

I did not replace the front sight but others I know did replace the front sight...I am sure that everyones eyesight is different...in my case I did not need to replace with a taller sight

Good stuff. I spoke to the guys at Skinner Sights and it seems I will need a taller front sight post after all. Great service from them.

If I was in the market for a new lever gun in 30-30 and I wanted something Marlin like, I’d have a very serious look at Henry now that they are offering side loading models. They’re a lot like a Marlin, but the fit and finish is much nicer. The Henry’s are more expensive, but the Marlins need trigger work and action smoothing, and that costs money and time. Why not skip all of that and just get a Henry?

I agree those Henry's do look nice. I am just thinking in terms of price vs utility the Marlin is a good choice.

Nothing wrong with having a Marlin in the safe.
At todays prices in store you'll find better bolt action hunting rifles at the same price point if not cheaper. Id look for an older JM marlin in the $400 dollar range if wanting to add one to the collection.

I bought a 2018 Marlin 336C in .35 Remington and it went back for warranty twice. First issue it would not chamber Remington core-lokt 200g rounds. It would not go far enough into the chamber and I couldn't close the lever. I sent it to the warranty Depot in Quebec and the had to machine out the chamber so I could fully close the bolt.

After getting it back I took it to the range and while sighting it in with the open sights I noticed the front sight ramp was mounted to the barrel off center. It was cocked to the right side over a bit. When I called and told the warranty shop in Quebec (the name escapes me, starts with a "g")? They said they developed a front sight ramp that had to be redrilled and it would take into account this defect... LOL

I moved on from this abomanation and bought a brand new Tikka T3X Battue in .308 win and I couldn't be happier!!! I am pretty much done with any new Remington product, there are soooo many better options for the money.

I have looked at and held MANY new Marlin 336 in the past 6-8 years and it's 50/50 on what you get.

I bought a 45/70 GBL a few years ago. Made by Remington. Fit and finish and quality control is horrific.

I bought a 45/70 CB a couple of years ago, and I couldn't be more pleased with the fit, finish and accuracy.
And I was buying blind, on the 'net, from Dante's. I just couldn't resist the price.
