Review of "Winchester Bolt Action Military and Sporting Rifles 1877 to 1937"
Recently read a copy. It has technical and production data on hotchkiss, Lee M1895, Model 54 and 70. Interesting chapters on the production of the P14 and M1917 at Winchester. Also covers the Winchester involvement in the design of the Japanese Murata and the Winchester 50 cal anti tank rifle. there are chapters on other bolt actions both straight pull and Mauser type. In 1916 a rifle, "Model D" heavily influenced by the P14 was developed and 15 produced in 6.5 Portugese, 7x57, 30-06, .303, and 7.62 Russian. The authour has also found documents stating that 500 in 7.62 were made and shipped to Russia in 1917. If any of these ever surface they would be among the rarest Winchesters.
