Now that the IRG's USA assembled SSG3000 have been in CGN owner's hands for a couple of months, I'm looking for actual owner's review of these SSGs.

- How is the stock compared to the all-Swiss assembled SSG (w/ McMillan stock)?

Then there is the EU SSG3000 that are now assembled with a different stock, which I have to admit, I like quite a bit:

- Which match ammo (type and weight) have you had best precision|accuracy results with?

FWIW these SSG3000s are RIGHT up there in my SSC QC Registry Ruling Celebratory Rifle Purchase short list :dancingbanana:

Appreciate the input gents.

My ssg 3000 patrol has a german made barrel and action. The reason they are not available in the US anymore as they cannot get the barreled actions out of Germany due to the export ban currently in place. If they were made in the US I don't imagine that would be a problem would it.

Mine shoots great groups. If I do my part most are under half inch . I am using lapua brass, lapua scenar bullets and imr 4064.

The rifles are very well put together, great fit, and quite heavy! The slickest bolt I have ever used. If one can find any barrels you can change them yourself in just a few minutes. Shows instuctions in the owners manual.

I hope to find a 6.5 barrel for it someday!

Probably mostly a fluke but that's a 150 meter group. I am still working on load development but even with fliers I can still keep test groups under MOA most of the time.

That tan stock is cool machinistbutler. I almost wish I had got the 18" version but I think the 23.5" was the right choice.

The barrel and action on my SSG3000 has 'Made in Germany' stamped on them. The only US part seems to be the stock. Mine now sits in a McMillan stock with a Sauer match barrel in 6.5x55 SKAN installed. Now I just need to work up a load for it :)

Did that McMillan stock make much of a difference? I am waiting to try an Accurate Mag Sport-Tact chassis when they become available in Canada.

I prefer the fit and feel of the McMillan stock over the factory plastic stock. The adjustable cheekpiece is a lot more positive on the McMillan as well. I found the cheekpiece on the plastic stock would slip down if I put a bit too much pressure on it, especially during recoil.

Where did you get the adapter for the barrel? The easy barrel swap is one of the features of these SSG 3000s (and STR and SHR 970) that make it interesting, all while now costing $6-7k.

No adapter needed. The barrel is made by Sauer in Germany for the STR200 match rifle. They happen to fit the SSG3000 perfectly :)

The action has the removable picatinny rail and is not stamped Exeter, New Hampshire? I have not seen any of the US patrol versions like that. Did not know they existed like that.

The US made actions still use a German made/proof marked bolt but unlike the German action the picatinny rail is not removable along with Exeter, New Hampshire markings.

As TFunfer said, these action & barrels are German made.
I have only seen the Patrol version with Exeter, New Hampshire markings on the action with a German proof marked bolt for sale at retailers, Same with the pictures being posted online.

You need to remember that American law states a certain number of parts on a gun need to be made in the USA for it to be compliant for sale in the USA, this is why many European companies have opened factories inside the USA. (thank the Clinton administration for that)

It is really too bad the Americans do not make the parts for this gun.

The euro one in the first post does look nice! Similar stock to the one cabelas offered.
I believe the cabelas was a laminate that was painted. It has the integral pic rail by the look of it.

Have had mine for about a year now. Excellent rifle out of the box. Fit and finish is fantastic. I might consider changing out the flash hider to a muzzle brake but for now everything is fine as is. Been shooting Hornady Match 178Gr BTHP, mixed brass, and IMR 4895. Ran it through the chronograph yesterday and was seeing ~1% deviation which was nice :).

Groups are about 1", sometimes less for me (shooting off a bipod and no rear bag). The test target was 0.4" group but i'm not that good.

It's one of the few ones that came in a McMillan stock :)

The Picatinny rail is fixed and I do have the Exeter, NH import mark. But on mine it is smaller and in a different location. When I last talked with Sig USA they informed that my barreled action had been manufactured in Germany and that production hadn't moved to the U.S. yet. This was a while ago though.
Now with Sig Germany not permitting the export of these rifles or components to the US, it looks like Sig USA has dropped them altogether. Atleast I don't see them listed on their website anymore, I can only find them on the German website now.

The barreled actions have always came from Germany. This has been gone over many times. The Germans have the capability to cut the 5/8x24 thread for the flash hinder... The mags come from Germany, the stock is US made.

MD Charlton has some good pics of the rifle in their forum here on cgn

how are they compliant with US law for sales there if it is all german made except fo the stock?
If you would like a further example, look at the HK sl8 that was sold in the usa compared to the german version we got here in canada, the new HK 243 for germany/canada and 293 for USA is another example of this.

So it is impossible to buy a sako or Tikka in the USA, or an Anchutz. I have a Cz550 American, the barreled action comes from the Czech republic. The stock might too.
