Hey folks!

I am looking into buying one of these. There was a great article on them in the last Military Surplus magazine that piqued my interest.

I do not presently have anything in the Model 1911 line and it seemed a little out of the ordinary.

Does anyone have any reviews they can give me on these? Quality, performance?

Thanx

I have one. It is refinished and looks like new. it shoots well.

BUT I would not buy one to be my main shooter. Parts would very hard to source if anything breaks.

Buy a Norc 1911 9mm. I have 2 of those and they are dirt cheap and great shooters, with a bazilion parts available.

The Star pistols are very well made and shoot well. I would take one over Norinco anytime. I have quite a few different models and they all work well and have excellent finish

Ganderite is correct about parts availability and interchangability. I personally like the fit and finish on my Star more so than my Norinco. If you are an "A" type personality, go for the Star and you will not be disappointed. If you do really care about tooling marks and such and need something that you could run hard, go for the Norc. The price for the two is a wash (both about $350). Also consider what gun enthusiast refer to as the European 1911, the Tokarev. Several companies make a 9mm verson. I find that my new Zastava is quite nice for a sub $300 9mm. Used you could find them for $230 to $250.

Really like mine, not as accurate as a modern gun mostly due to its poorer sights. I did get the odd hammer bite from mine so I bobbed mine a bit and parkerized it. Just a cool gun IMHO

I've had a couple different Star Model B's. First one I owned, circa 1990, which sadly I wish I hadn't sold, shot circles around a spankin' new Colt Government 9mm with hi viz 3 dot sites, I also owned at the time. Despite the nubby rudimentary sites on the Model B.

Only one I have now is a Model BM, which is the 12(6) "shortie barrel" version of the Model B. Like it a lot.

Like the Star pistols, always shot them well. Like others, only criticism I could level would be lack of readily available spare parts in case of breakage. And found extra mags hard to come by. Too bad they didn't take the same mag as the 1911 in 9mm.
