Revolver cylinder wiggle.

Hey all,

Just bought a webley off the EE. As with all new guns I was giving it the once over and making sure everything was in order. I've got an Enfield revolver as well and they cylinder on it as well has a little bit of left/right wiggle, however it feels like the webley has more. I'm going to guesstimate perhaps .75 to 1mm in either direction when the hammer is cocked.

Im guessing this means I should avoid wadcutter tips, but does it mean a trip to a gunsmith is on order?

pardon? Perhaps I didn't state well enough this is a DA/SA pistol. I was trying the wiggle with the hammer back in SA mode. Unless you think it might be different when half pulled in DA mode?

The action doesn't fully lock up until the trigger is pulled.
Doesn't matter if you start single action with the hammer back, or pull the trigger double action.
Get the action into fired condition, and try wiggling the cylinder. I bet it will be tight.

sonofagun, you're right. If I pull the hammer back then pull the trigger and hold the hammer from falling then try and wiggle the cylinder it barely moves. *Whew*.

Yes, if you look at the cylinder you will see it has a bolt stop and cylinder stop positions independant of each other. The gun therefore does not acheive full lockup until the trigger is all the way back.
