Revolver question

Hey guys I have been seeing this quite often on the site where revolvers are being sold says"3 screw" model what does it mean and what are the differences ...is it just the standard for letting people know how it is held together or made? Which ones are better more screws or less ...sounds kind of weird but you know what I mean.

On Ruger single actions, 3 screw is the old model made before 1973 I believe, New model made after, only has 2 screws.

The new model has a transfer bar safety system, if you were to hit the hammer (drop the gun) the gun won't go off, Will only fire with your finger on the trigger.
Generally the old model (three screw) are worth more, because they are rarer and collectors don't want the safety feature.

Same with S&W's. Older vintage guns would start with 5 screws and drop as you get to the current model revolvers.

If you see the trend developping. The older you get, the less you screw.

Statements about the number of screws are not universal, they apply to certain makes / models, and they are more about identifying which production generation you are getting than about anything mechancial.

It's like saying "this corvette has a split rear window". It doesn't mean anything from a design point of view, it simply identifies a unique version of the car, which is important to collectors.

I think from what mighty mouse is saying it's the other way around.The newer ones have less hardware screws
