Title says it all : Anyone experimented with reloads or managed recoild rounds in this rifle? Any data or first hand experience? Does it kick harder or lighter than a rifle of comparable weight?

I only shoot factory rounds at present as I haven't developed a load for the gun yet... that said, I use Winchester 168 grain Ballistic Silver Tips, and find when your gas system is adjusted correctly, recoil is already very light.

I tried some 110 grain hornady TAP. It uses the 110 grain vmax and the recoil was fairly light. I wouldn't use that on anything bigger than deer or small black bear though.

I wouldn't use it on anything larger than a coyote, the Vmax bullets are varmint bullets and are not meant for any big game. 110gr would be a powder puff load no matter how it is loaded, there just isn't enough bullet weight there to generate significant recoil.

OP, why are you looking for lighter loads? For range use? Hunting? 308 is not a heavy recoiling round and the gas operating system of the RFB will make it softer than an equivalent weight bolt action.

Lighter loads simply for the comfort of shooting without a flinch. I may look like a p*ssy but i never liked recoil plain and simple. Bullet type is not relevant as I exclussively shoot paper

If you are shooting paper, get some cheap 150gr FMJ bullets (I use PRVI bullets from Mystic Precision) and start with minimum loads of IMR4064 or a similar medium speed powder and work down from there until the rifle won't cycle. They won't shoot very flat beyond 100yds or so, but you should be able to get a decent load that is as soft shooting as possible.

FWIW, I have had some remarkably light loads cycle my Garand ok, you may be able to really download it and still get 100% function.

Just as a thought, if you don't like recoil, maybe look at a black rifle in .223 instead. A Tavor is equivalent to your RFB in pretty much every way, you get to run 10 round mags and it will have half (or less) the recoil.

I agree that the vmax is a varmint bullet, but at 3300 fps and the same weight as a lot of 6.8 SPC loads I would still use it on a deer. The wound channels on ballistic gel tests impressive.

I would still like a 110grain Barnes TSX in .308 to try out on deer.
