Hi Folks,
Just received an RIA/Armscor M22 in the mail today and have some pics/thoughts compared to the 10/22. I am just getting into this hobby so please forgive me if I do not use all the correct terminology.
1) The wood stock on the M22 looks terrible (see pics). Ruger has nothing to worry about if they're concerned someone is copying their stock as it's pretty apparent which is which
2) The scope rail is removable (There is another thread regarding the G36 stock and whether the rail would interfere with installation). One thing to note is that the screws which hold in the rail are of a coarser thread than on the Ruger (see pic).
3) Rear sight is ugly and does not contain fiber optics (although the front sight does). If you see the pic, the vertical piece that the rear sight fits on was bent to the right (when looking down range). I have no clue how to adjust the elevation but assume it has to do with the stepping along that vertical piece. Windage I'm guessing is adjusted with a drift punch. I have not shot this gun yet so no idea how straight the M22 shoots. As for the cockeyed vertical piece, not a big deal to me as I'm planning on mounting a scope.
4) Front sight is mounted on a ramp held with a single screw. I have not removed the sight but i suspect that mounting any compensators (referring back to the G36 thread) will require some work as the barrel's diameter will be too small once that ramp is removed.
5) Weight feels decent and the trigger guard is metal
6) I have not taken apart the gun but some quick dimensions I have looked at are identical to the 10/22 (OAL, receiver length/width, barrel OD). My calipers are not as uber precise as some others I have seen to compare the two guns. I read that the barrel tang on the M22 is not the same size as the 10/22
7) Fasteners on this gun would have to be looked at very carefully as I'm thinking that the M22 might use metric screws.
On looks alone this gun looks much more like a cheap clone than a straight up direct copy. However, for its price, it would work just fine as a truck/quad/beater gun.
I'll bring it out shooting some time next week to give thoughts in that area...otherwise enjoy the pics...10/22 is on top, M22 is on bottom
