out testing some stuff today with my dad.
took out 2 ruger 10/22's and 3 RIA's to test against each other for accuracy.

Ruger 1 - 1993 Stock Ruger 10/22 on a Butler Creek Folding Stock.
Ruger 2 - 1993 Ruger with VQ Trigger kit, bull barrel (GM) on a Boyd stock
RIA 1 - Stock set up on a Hogue over-molded stock
RIA 2 - Stock set up on a ruger stock (in fact the stocks are from the 2 rugers listed above!)
RIA 3 - Stock set up on a ruger stock (in fact the stocks are from the 2 rugers listed above!)

was surprised to see the Ruger both outshot the HELL out of the RIA's.

here is the set up

Targets:

Gun 1 0.440"

Gun 2 0.692"

Gun 3 2.973"

Gun 4 2.756"

Gun 5 3.729"
me%20RIA%202%20vs%20ss%202_zpspu2tvye8.jpg

so for me the stock ruger shot 0.440" and the ruger with some upgrades shot 0.692" but the RIAs shot 1) 2.973" 2) 2.756" 3) 3.729" using the same set up and ammo. so the rugers groups where over 2 inches smaller than the RIA.

take into account this was outside in the elements with a little bit of breeze using bulk cheap ammo.
but the numbers done lie.
the Rugers out shot the RIA by a landslide!

good write-up ! Thanks for sharing & taking the time to test both kinds of 10/22"s
Interesting,...I figured they would be the same.

I had an RIA that I traded for, one range trip was enough. I don't remember the numbers, but it was the most horribly inaccurate 22 I've ever had. Like 3" groups at 25 yards. But functioning was perfect.

ya all 3 we had out yesterday functioned flawlessly.
i was highly underwhelmed with the accuracy of the guns.
granted i only picked them up because they where so cheap, i never shoot them, they sit in a gun safe i never use in the off chance someone comes to visit and wants to borrow a gun.
ive got a dozen Ruger 10/22's of all different configurations that need my attention so i cant see these RIAs getting much use unless my kids want to bag them.

My RIA prefered Federal Auto Match in the 325 bulk pack followed by mini mags then CCI Sv over blazer. My accuracy was much greater, just around an inch at 50 with above mentioned, but my barrel and chamber have had some machine work done. I still have some more work to do to mine but right now it shoots as good as a stock ruger sporter carbine. I tried 12 brands of ammo with average of 2 groups of 5 shots going from best (cci mini mag, Federal auto match ) at an inch to worst (American Eagle, Federal bulk 525 pack) at 2 3/4.
