I have a Ruger American 30-06 and want to purchase a Vortex Diamondback 3.5x10x50 for it. Does anyone have this combo,and what size Burris zee rings will I need? this is the scope I want and the salesman at the store says "Oh you don't need a 3.5x10x50 get the 3x9x40". Ok but maybe that is the scope I want,was kinda in a rush so didn't go any further with him to see if it would fit my rifle and what rings I need. Self righteous people don't make sales btw.

If you go to the Buris website it should have a chart that will tell you what size to get....the store you are purchasing from should also have that same info.
Does the Ruger American accept Burris rings or does it use the Ruger Rings?

It will accept zee rings. I have talley lightweight lows on mine with a 3-9x40 elite. The talley lows are about the hieght of medium zee's. In my opinion, you will probably need high rings and the comb on the American is a bit low meaning you will need a cheek riser.I agree with the salesman. You don't need a 50mm scope.
I now have the Crossfire 2 3x9x40 with the med Zee rings on this rifle already and it is close to barrel. Diamondback 3x9x40 objective is a bit bigger. I keep looking through my Crossfire and it is clear,but not as clear as the Diamondback is. I have decided to go with the 40mm objective,hope it will fit. I will purchase after Xmas and keep all posted.
