I don't even take my 223 and 300BLK rifles to the range on the same days. Too easy to get mixed up, especially if you let someone else shoot your rifles.
I have three 300BLK rifles and love each of them. You will definitely want to reload if you're going to run 300BLK though, factory ammo isn't too hard to find but it is fairly expensive. May as well just shoot 308 if you don't handload.
Don't get confused by the .308 caliber, this is nowhere near a 308win/7.62×51 in performance.
As stated before, you only swap the barrel and everything else is standard 223/5.56 parts. No need for heavy buffers or springs either.
As much as I love the cartridge, I don't really recommend it to people who are only going to run an AR. The 223 has a much better trajectory and is cheaper to shoot so if you're just going to be playing at the range it doesn't make a lot of sense to own just to make bigger holes in paper. It is however a lot of fun to shoot, the recoil impulse is different than a 5.56 rifle. Two of my 300BLK rifles are non restricted and since I love building AR's it only made sense to me to put together an AR chambered for this cartridge.
If you need some help with your build feel free to PM me and I'll try to help clear up any questions you have. If there is anything I can't answer I can connect you to a buddy of mine one the site who has even more experience than I do with the cartridge. I've been running 300BLK for three or four years now and have been handloading and making brass from once fired 223 casings for it since I bought my first rifle.
