Rifle for Commonwealth TR or Precision Rifle disciplines?

I have been looking to expand my shooting sports from bullseye handgun. This long range stuff sounds exciting. Some of the other threads have talked about an ORA Introduction session that I will try this year.


Just poking around on the different manufacturer sites I kind of like the Savage Model 10 FCP-K in .308. Is this a good starter gun for 1000 yard shooting or are others using something different? Just reading the descriptions of the disciplines on the ORA site I am interested in either the Commonwealth TR shooting or the Precision Rifle.

308 will get u out to a mile if u do your part

NO muzzle brakes in competition shooting. Stock shape is NOT ideal for this game.

If you really want to pursue TR shooting and want a factory rig, have a look at the Savage PALMA in either 308 or 223. I think the barrel is even sized for front sights

There is a CG INCH rifle for sale on the EE. If you want the latest in TR actions. Just throw on a set of sights and you are ready to go. Like Jerry say if you are looking for an off the shelf rifle to shoot Target Rifle (irons and slings) the Savage Palma it the way to go.
