I'm looking for a method of carrying a rifle on my backpack while im hiking through difficult terrain, so is important that my hands are 100% free.

I found this one which has a quick detach option to be able to access your rifle very fast but all the weight of the rifle will be on your shoulder.

Then I found this one which seems more of what im looking for since all the weight goes into the backpack. But they only seem to have FDE and cammo colors and im looking for something black or dark blue like in the picture. Is there any other brands you guys would suggest? Something that would be available in Canada?

I have a 5.11 Ignitor, which has a pass-through and optional rifle scabbard. The bag itself is very comfortable, but there is limited storage in the main pocket -- it would be fine for a 1 day hike though.

Kifaru gun bearer. It keeps the rifle infront of you ready to go. I made my own from an old backpack strap. Hands free while you walk but deployed in about 1 full second with practice.

Here's the real deal :

Here's what I made, total cost $0. (Im gonna make another one with two attachment points like the second one you showed in the OP, this was more a proof of concept than anything else):

I'm not a hunter - but a hiker with a fair amount of experience pack fitting. The Xenith is a fantastic load-carrier, similar to the Gregory Baltoro.

If you favour the opposite side of the rifle with some of your heavier items (food/water/stove/axe..) you will still be able to balance the overall load well, and shouldn't feel anything in the shoulders. There is a fair amount of adjustment in the Xenith, when fitted properly the majority of your load should be on your hips.

Is there any way of not having the rifle in front of you but on the side of the pack?

Sure. It's designed to attach to your packs shoulder strap, but you could just as easily attach it to a compression strap on the side of your bag, or even slip it under a compression strap for a more secure hold.

I find that with only one attachment point on the holder it twists sometimes, that's why I want to make another one. If you were securing the top end of the rifle to the pack and not your shoulder strap that likely wouldn't be an issue.

Not that a pack mounted holder is a bad thing but they don’t allow you quick access from what I’ve seen, I prefer something like the Vickers sling. Easy to sinch it up tight to you over a pack or you can shoulder it and use the chest and waist straps of your pack to keep it secured but quick to unclip, the only time I have a rifle or shotgun strapped up is if I’m climbing over rocks or a snag of downed trees or dragging out a deer from somewhere. Otherwise it’s slung over my shoulder or in my hands.

Gun bearer is a great unit. I have one and have made my own versions with 1" strapping. Simple design light and compact. It can be carried under the arm for quick access or vertical on either side of the pack. Eblerstock packs are also fantastic.

The gun bearer takes seconds to deploy. Undo the top strap that holds the barrel to the shoulder strap, and shoulder the rifle. I can have my gun go from hands free to shouldered and ready in under 2 seconds.

Right on, it looks like it’s better than an internal sleeve like the eberlestock uses. A buddy has that pack and it’s funny watching how long it takes him to pull his gun out of it, I still prefer a good quick adjust sling like the Vickers but that’s just my personal preference. You gotta find what works for you in the end.

they might have an attachment for you! I have one of their bigger bags that the rifle can go right into. it can be drawn without removing the pack. very nice.

Times 2.
I bought a used Eberlestock off the EE.
Something had to be attached securely and with no experience with the brand it could not have fit thee bill better.
The rifle with a bipod will come out on one pull.

I couldn't imagine trying to pull my rifle out vertically like that. You'd get it stuck in the trees more often then not. I guess if you're hunting open country it would be ok but one is my favorite features is how low the rifle carries, my 22"barrel is isn't above my head and I'm like 5foot 7.
