I couldn't imagine trying to pull my rifle out vertically like that. You'd get it stuck in the trees more often then not. I guess if you're hunting open country it would be ok but one is my favorite features is how low the rifle carries, my 22"barrel is isn't above my head and I'm like 5foot 7.
Agreed, I can see the benefit of the vertical sleeve if you were hiking in the open or high alpine with lots of notice that you need to drop your pack or pull your gun out. Hiking in a forest or through thick bush would be pointless. Will be interesting to see what my friend says about it once he puts some miles on his this year, he picked it up late last season which was his first time hunting.
For where and how I hunt less is more for me, I’m trying to streamline my pack and gear as much as possible this year. Med size pack with the essentials is the base goal, then add items or a second small bag as needed.
