Hi all

Can some one do some translations for me? I removed the rear hand guard and here are a couple of pictures

Thanks

We need to see the right-hand side of the butt socket, under the bolt handle. You'll notice some considerable writing there. Most of what you're showing is proof marks, which are not very chatty, if you follow me.

That said, I do spy a "For Cordite Only" stamp, which tells me this is possibly a commercial No.1 Mk.III* made between the wars. The serrated trigger face would bear this hypothesis out, if it's not simple home-smithing. I would nearly bet this was a BSA made rifle.

Serial number style between action and barrel look quite different. Would that be normal or has it been rebarreled?

Just noticed the rear trigger guard screw is longer than it should be. Possibly the rifle had a commercial target sight at one time and the screw was needed for the mounting plate.

the screw heads on the rifle are chewed up for the most part. rear trigger guard screw, front guard screw, retaining spring screw and the inter band screw is missing

there is a broad arrow symbol on the barrel below the (19) 23 date stamp, does this suggest that the rifle was used by the military?
