rifle parts

im looking to build a custom .223 or maybe .270. im looking for something on the cheaper side for my first build. but im having trouble finding a source for parts, particularly the action. im leaning towards bolt action single shots to start.

any help, tips and pointers would be appreciated.

All depends on how "custom" you want to get. Actions from Stolle, RPA, Barnard or others can set you back $1200-$1500. Rifles based on Remington, Savage and Stevens for much less.
I know guys that will spend $200-300 or more on just a trigger. Custom rifles are a slippery slope my friend. There are plenty of threads in the precision rifle forums about custom rigs to get you started.
