Well, the wife has taken a liking to shooting and would like to join hunting next year. Sooo she wants her own boomstick. She is very small, 5’2” and 110 lbs, she likes my
Cz 557 .308win .. but it’s a ####in tank and she can’t hold it up… any suggestions on models/calibres suitable for her?

My wife loves her browning micro midas. 243,7mm-08....whichever she prefers.. my wife is 5' 4" and it's a perfectly sized rifle for her.

Winchester model 70 featherweight compact in 308 win comes in at 6 lbs 8 oz. https://www.winchesterguns.com/products/rifles/model-70/current/model-70-featherweight-compact.html
These Model 70's made by FN herstal in Portugal are amazing firearms in terms of quality. They are a step up in price and quality over most the base model CZ 527's, 550, and 557's. But the price increase in my opinion is worth the cost. I found one for sale at bartonsbigcountry's website if you find you want one. I'll link a video of a featherweight model for you to look at, it's not the compact but they aren't far off from each other in terms of size and looks.

If you want to do a CZ rifle again to keep with the brand try a CZ 527 carbine in 762x39. Depending on model it can be 5.95lbs -7 lbs. It's a mini Mauser action and works perfectly for smaller shooters who need a lighter and smaller rifle. They are discontinued in 2021 but you can still find them in some stores, or here on the Equipment exchange. I've shot one of these and they are super fun guns.

Browning x bolt Micro Midas in either 243 win or 308 win. Comes in at 6 lbs, and is available new unlike the 527. Never shot one so I can't say how it feels, but Browning usually makes good firearms. Hey if this young girl can handle these Micro Midas x bolts without issue I'm sure your wife can.

Browning Xbolt Micro as mentioned, or if you are on a budget, the Browning AB3 line has some similar offerings and are light and compact.
308 might be a bit much for her, 243 is a nice cartridge.
Howa mini is decent too, but not many standard cartridges, 6.5 Grendal, 7.62x39, not sure if they make 300 Legend in those yet, all pretty soft shooting and will work on deer just fine.

Another vote for x-bolt micro midas. The different submodels have varying LOP though, from 12.5 to about 13.5. They used to include spacers but no longer do but you can still put them on if you can find them.

CZ527 with a shortened stock would work well. As was mentionnes, Your wife might need a cheek riser if you get one with a euro (hogsback) stock.

While I was guiding in BC, the wife of the client came along and was carrying a Savage in 243. Was a youth or slightly smaller wooden/blued rifle, cant remember the exact model. But it was nice to carry being light and well balanced, it looked good, and it shot very well. After 2 weeks in the bush, and on a number of day long horse back rides, it still shot well. Chances are they make it in a number of calibres, and the price point would make it very attractive.

Wouldn’t the Winchester Featherweight compact in .308 have a bit too much recoil for a woman that is 5’2 and 110 lbs ?
Leavenworth

I was going to ask about recoil tolerance as well, a light rifle is great to carry but there is always a trade off. The T3x Lite compact suggested earlier might be a good choice if mild recoil is no issue.

I don’t have a .243 for her to try, she didn’t like my .303brit or 6.5x55 and doesn’t want another rimfire(even tho I do and can never have enough)

Is the problem with these cartridges too much recoil or heavy rifle weight? What does she intend to do with the rifle? hunting or bench rest, and in the case of hunting, what kind?
