Rifle sighting using bench rest vs. bipod

Is a bench rest absolutely necessary for sighting in a rifle for ranges between 150-250 yards, or can one get by using a high quality bipod mounted to the stock?

You should sight it in the same way you are planning to use.

Not absolutely necessary, but a sand bag on a bench is far more solid. Sight in a bit high at 100 yards. Three and a half inches high at 100 with most, but not all, centrefire rounds should put you in the kill zone out to about 300 yards with no hold over on most large game.
