Rifle suggestions?

I am looking for a rifle in either 270, 30-06 or 308. I don't know which calibre is more versatile and cheaper to shoot.
I expect it to be accurate and I like the HB look.

It will be used for target and hunting as well.

having said that, what are your thoughts on the SAVAGE 111FCXP3 PACKAGE?
(I will probably be upgrading the scope later)

My budget is up to $700 including taxes.

Buy a used Remington 700 BDL in 30-06 and pick up a used Bushnell 3200 3-9x40 scope. Should be in your budget range.

for $700, you should be able to purchase a Marlin XL7 (long action .25-07, .270, .30-06) or XS7 (.308, 7mm-08, .243) and afford a basic Bushnell Elite 3200 w/rings for your $700! You'd have to get the Elite 3200 elsewhere...but SakoAlberta (Prophet River) has the XL7/XS7 for about $450 taxed/shipped. I know, I just bought one in .30-06 and it was $445 damages included! :grin:

The 111FCXP3 is nice in that it has a detachable magazine, but the stock is too flexible in the front end, in my opinion. If you want accurate, I'd save my money and buy one with a laminate stock and lose the detachable mag feature.
