I am thinking about getting my dad a new hunting rifle and am looking for some suggestions..

Requirements:

does not have to be a new model, will consider used
.308
semi-auto
wood stock preferred
blued
detachable mag
NOT a Remington product.

Limit $1200 with or w/o scope

If he's old and fuddy like my dad, you can just tell him it's an upgraded Garand made in China. That would be funny to see.

My dad's so old and fuddy he thought his blu-ray player was broken because channel 3 didn't "start the movie".

Kind of thought the BAR would be the only option.. He has a M100, it's a great gun and has taken quite a few deer but has given him some issues this year and needs to go to a gunsmith. I would like to get him something newer but stay with what he is familiar with, ie semi auto and 308..

I'd seriously consider the offer Blue Line has one an HK SLB 2000 in .300 Win Mag. At $999 it is a steal, imo. Other than that very nice Belgian BARs in .308 often pop up for reasonable money on the EE.
