Hi all, I've been looking around the internet for a solution to my dilemma. Basically, I want to use a buttstock that requires a carbine length buffer tube on my AR15. However, I'm going to be using a 20" barrel with a rifle length D.I. gas system.

Will a standard carbine buffer work for this setup, or will a heavier carbine buffer possibly be required?

The buffer is dependent on the stock, not the barrel. The carbine buffer in a collapsible stock will work fine with a 20" barrel.

The heavier carbine buffers are to dampen the faster cycling speed of a short gas system. Since you are using a rifle length gas system, it will generate less thrust than the carbine length gas system, so you should be fine with the standard carbine buffer.

:agree: What he said. The C7A2 would be the best example of this.
