Rifled Slug Question

you can us any choke for rifled slugs . people have been shooting them out of full chokes long before screwins were around ,i have shot many deer with an old model 12 with full choke DUTCH

Technically any choke will work, but if you shoot too many slugs through a full choke, it will eventually open it up. So if you start off with a looser constriction you won't be damaging your tighter chokes. Also you're supposed to get the best accuracy out of IC/C

And saboted rounds are only for rifled barrels correct? I always wondered about the hunting regulations in that respect. A rifled barrel turns a shotgun into a, well, rifle. Those slugs will be moving fast and far as would a bullet from a dedicated rifle. So what's the difference in terms of safety in populated areas?

Those slugs have about half the muzzle velocity of a rifle. The BC of a slug is awful so it will slow down MUCH faster than a rifle bullet. I don't know how far a slug will travel, but it's no where near as far as a rifle

Yes Teapot, sabots are meant for rifled barrels. Although I have heard of ppl using rifled slugs in rifled barrels with a decent grouping as well, but Im not sure how that would fair on the rifling in the barrel! They are the only gun along side a muzzleloader (check regs) that are permitted in controlled hunts, because of the population. Not sure if u have looked into that yet! But yes, rifled barrels and sabots are permitted in shotgun only areas.

What choke are you supposed to use with a rifled slug? 12 gauge gun if it matters. Thanks.
Is it possible to get a rifled choke for the gun? My brother has one for his 11-87 Remington but it is very picky on what it likes to shoot - moreso than our other fully rifled slug guns or Dad's old Mossberg smoothbore slugster. Some slugs keyhole, & different brands of slugs will move the point of impact over a foot and a half. Very few group under 3" or 4" at 100 yards.
