Rifle's trigger replacement

Friend of mine has 03 Springfield rifle and wants his two stage factory trigger replaced with something more decent....
Would easy to get aftermarket 98 Mauser trigger fit his rifle for instance or it has to be 03 Springfield specific one?
Are they at all available for something that old?
What are his options?

Timney makes them, but you will need the year of manufacture.
