I own a piece of WW2 history, called SVT-40. The birchwood stock is a) loose; b) soaked with oil and other chemicals and c) does not really fit me well.
The fit part has to do with my long neck and long arms. Quick draw requires further raise of a front sight by about 3/4", which delays target acquisition.
It is tempting to endeavour making of my own Dragunov-style fiberglass stock for this gun. From the looks of it, I should be able to use the internal cavity of the existing stock to manufacture alabaster mould, then use Dragunov stock drawings to manufacture the mould for the outside surface.
But the question remains, how will this impact the recoil felt?
