So my friends and I were out shooting my 10/22, when it failed to load from the BC magazine. The bolt was hitting the rim of the cartridge but wasn't able to push it out of the magazine. I took the magazine out and used a knife to gently pop the cartridge out of the magazine, took it out and put it back in.
Stuck the magazine in the rifle, pulled the bolt back and let it go... BANG, damn cartridge blew up in the magazine. The ass end of it(minus bullet) was still in the magazine and it basically split along the top of the case and opened up. I'm happy it didn't open up along the bottom or it might of caused the next round to go off as well.
Anyways, did this ever happen to anyone else? It was a pretty annoying experience.

I've had the rim rupture on several rounds of cheaper 22RF ammunition. Mainly Winchester bulk junk, best I can recall. Upon firing though, not in the magazine.

Good lesson on the importance on eye protection while shooting.

How did the magazine fair after that? You are lucky your hand wasn't in front of the ejection port!

I have never had it happen with a 10/22, but years ago had a Remington 1100 fire from a slightly open bolt. The bad part is I shoot left handed...
That chunk of mu top lip grew back though...

I did have a .22lr hang fire explode on the floor of the truck when shooting gophers years ago. About 5 seconds after the firing pin strike. No damage and no injury, but loud as hell in the cab of the old '79...

How did the magazine fair after that?

Actually didn't seem to hurt it at all. I didn't use the magazine since, but I was able to slide the next rounds out easily. Cleaned the 10/22 and it's working fine.
It was with some bulk federal I got from crappy tire. The dynapoints and this bulk federal stuff... neither the cooey or the 10/22 likes them. They do ok, some FTEs or Failure to feeds, enough to get annoying at times. Mini-mags work great though.

The bolt going foreward had enough force to cause the primer rim to go off while still 'stuck' in the magazine. And the only place it had to blow, was up.

Gotta get a couple bricks of mini-mags and some tactical inc mags so they can be cleaned. This BC magazine was purchased used, and worked better than I thought it would, but with the tactical inc magazines being so cheap now(the composite ones) there's no excuse not to go with the best.
