Was looking to install a scope onto a CZ Scout - advertised as an "11mm" dovetail. Other rifles mention a "3/8" dovetail. I found that curious. Eventually ordered a set of Warne Maxima rings - they apparently address that "problem" by making the clamps reversible - one direction for 11mm; the other end for 3/8" dovetail.

As I read some more, it seems both systems have the bottom of the dovetail at about 3/8" - the 11mm size is apparently about .36", versus .375". In other words, it sounds like the tips of the dovetail cutters would be about 3/8" apart when the dovetails are cut. However, the slope on the side of the dovetails must be different - the "11mm" dovetail does appear to measure 11mm at the top (widest); the 3/8" dovetail appears to measure about .500" (12.7 mm) at the top (widest).

So, first, I hope this information is correct, and second, I hope it might help someone get the correct rings for their .22 by simply measuring the width of the dovetail at the top - at the widest part. If it measures .500", then you would order rings with 3/8" clamps...

EDIT to add: I found a couple threads on rimfire central saying that the 11mm European dovetail is cut with 60 degree shoulders, and the North American 3/8" dovetail is cut with 45 degree shoulders. No references were given - just assertions by posters, so who knows??

IIRC the 452's were a mix of 3/8's and 11 mm.
The 453's and 455's were all 11 mm.

Leupold's RingMounts were offered in 11 mm and 3/8's.

The Burris would accommodate both by reversing the clip held in place with a screw . . . there was a long claw and a short one and when installed the right one would be visible to the eye.

As the OP notes, there is confusion as to what the dimensions are for the CZ 3/8" and 11mm dovetails.

Here's a profile of the 3/8" and 11mm dovetails posted at some time on RFC and attributed to RFC member BSCAR, who, in addition to making rails for 455 and 457 CZ rifles, makes an excellent two stage trigger for the 455.

Below is an earlier profile posted on RFC that shows other dimensions. For ease of reference, 3/8" as a decimal fraction is .375" or 9.525mm.

To add to the confusion, according to a scope ring maker who makes rings specifically for the CZ 455 11mm dovetails, the following dimensions generally accord with the two different dovetails, 11mm and 3/8", shown below. h t t p s://www.grubee.net/products/wp-ah-high-rings-for-european-11mm-dovetail

The top and bottom profiles are almost in agreement. I'd bet they are closer to being accurate than the dimensions shown in the middle diagram.

Farck'in'ell……………...ear I tawt I wuzz lews'in me mind.
Fabyewluzz info.

Thanks.

Good information. I'd measured the dovetail on my 455 American and 452 Varmint at .430" at the top, (both have 11mm dovetails), but didn't know the angles were different.
The 452's were a mish mash of both 3/8" and 11mm dovetails depending on the model.

Saved for future reference.

A "resurrection" of this thread. I recently acquired a BRNO Mod 1, with the 16mm "across the top" dovetails. Some "angst" to find scope rings for it - I discovered in the Warne QD line - Maxima - 1B1LM (Medium) and 2B1LM (High) - are actually listed for the CZ 527 rifle - unscrew the little cap screw underneath for the recoil slot on the CZ 527 and they fit the 16mm BRNO Mod 1 dovetail. Not yet decided on which scope or the necessary bolt handle clearance, I ordered in both and they both seem to fit on the Model 1 just fine - need to be pressed down tightly for a "no gap" fit across the top of the dovetail. An acquaintance advises that the "B" width series of the Parker Hale rings also fits - so like RBLS.3, or similar - "B" (narrow) width, not "A"- which is the wider ones (19mm or so)

When it comes to the European 11 mm I found
what fit CZ dovetails will not fit the Anschutz because
of the curvature height .

Any suggestions as to what will fit the Anschutz 1710 ?
