I’m thinking of grabbing another CZ for plinking / hunting small game … most likely a CZ457 Stainless.

I currently have a T1X in a KRG chassis with a Vortex Razor HD Gen II set up for PRS. It’s heavy and accurate but not “handy”.

I’d like to top the CZ off with an optic in MRAD, preferably with parallax that goes down to 25 , preferably FFP, with decent glass in the 2-10ish power range. I know I’m describing a long range scope but was hoping to find something a little lighter / less tactical. When I plonk I like to be able to hit things out to 100m and beyond with some sort of reference point, be it in the reticle or on the turret.

I haven’t bought a new scope in a while and there are a bunch of new brands that I’m not super familiar with.

What would you folks recommend? If you know of something that will work really well, feel free to make a suggestion.

Budget ? It's hard to recommend something. FFP scopes are all 20 oz + even with a low mag range so this is something to keep in mind. Do you want illumination or it doesn't matter for you ?

Budget: Athlon Helos BTR gen 2 2-12.
Mid range: Leupold Mark4 HD 2.5-10.

There is more expensive options but I don't feel you gain much at the 2-10 range. A Mark 5HD 2-10 is twice the price of the Mark4HD with few benefits and similar glass.

If you open up to 3-15 or 3-18 you can get a bunch of options from Vortex, Tract, Apex and others depending how much you want to spend. With an unlimited budget I would grab a Tangent Theta 3-15.

Look at shooting warehouse.ca and talk to to Robbie the owner for recommendations. Consider the Arken EPL-4…there is a variant that has what you’re looked for. I’ve parked Arkens on a Lithgow,Vudoo, Browning T-bolts, and a CZ457 and am EXTREMELY happy and IMPRESSED with them. They have FFP, MIL or MOA, lighted reticles, 30mm and 34mm tubes, great repeatable turrets with zero lock and built like a bomb shelter…actually was going to say a brick sh*t house but that didn’t sound too flattering. The squirrels don’t like the Arken and the Nightforce scopes are becoming jealous of an optic that is less than a 1/4 of their cost. Oh…and a lifetime guarantee!! Bill

I’ve never heard of Arken, I’ll check them out.

As for budget, on the low end I’m tempted by a Leupold VX Freedom or Burris Fullfield IV for light, clear glass but I’m giving up a lot. It would be a set it and forget and go with Kentucky windage.

On the higher end I’d consider a Strike Eagle or PST II or anything else descent for 1000-1500. I’m going for the lower magnification so I don’t end up with a giant heavy scope like the Razor Gen II.

CZ for plinking / hunting small game

Given those parameters sheds ample light on my response.
My search for a CZ457 or Tikka T1X ender with a T1X.
The scope mounted was a Burris 5-25 and this proved too much for a gopher rifle.
A Weaver 4-16 will be the replacement when the Burris finds another rifle.
The scope you chose is a personal matter especially when weight is an issue.

I have Vortex crossfire 2-7 on my CZ 457 deadly and easy to use. Maybe get a diamondback 2-7 if you’re feeling spendy

Have a look at RITON, they have been excellent for me and offer a lot more for less money than most, including Vortex.

My favorite rimfire scope is a Leupold VX-1 2x7 for hunting gophers, squirrels, whatever sitting on a CZ 452 American. Great glass, small and light weight, an all-around great scope. For benchrest with my CZ 455 Supermatch, I use a FX-16 Leupold with target turrets and an extra fine cross hair that I had done up for me by Korth.
