Rimfire Precision, low budget project: Shultz & Larsen or Norinco NS522

With the Canadian dollar in the tank I have put my precision 10/22 project on the back burner for now.

As an alternative winter project, with the same goal (sub 1/2" at 50 yards) I am debating between a Shultz & Larsen from TradeEx and a Norinco NS522 from CanadaAmmo.

I would expect both would take a bit of clean up (more so with the Norinco) some trigger work, a bedding job (or build a complete new stock). Drill & tap the S & L for scope mounts, perhaps re-crown (either gun) if needed.


From what my research has shown, each would have some great accuracy for low budget, curious if one is a better choice over the other or if it comes down to preference?
 
NS522, even at $350 is an excellent rifle and can do 1/2 MOA with good ammo.

See the bible of all NS522 threads by Father and take the plunge. I have my 2016 project all ready to go, just waiting for the hunting season to end before I start it.

S&L is another good way to go, but I'd personally go the Norinco route.

Just had a look at TEC's listings. A number of match rifles, but the lighter S&L target rifles are pretty much all project grade with defects.

What are the differences between the ones labeled as "match rifle" and "target rifle".

In my research there seem to be several different models but most are very much related, in some it was only the stock style, others the trigger, or bolt release system, etc.

On the Trade Ex website I can look at the photos and see some have the barrel and action/receiver to be of equal diameter, while others have a larger diameter action in relation to the barrel. Any tips on how to identify what each offering might really be?

He seems to be more willing to spend time answering questions.
They can get run pretty ragged filling orders.

Been sniffing them Schultz for a while now.
 
Sounds like a good idea, maybe get them to pick out the one that would suit my needs best.

Will have to wait until after harvest is over, it will be my end of harvest reward.
 
or find yourself a nice old Mossberg 144 LSB,,they shoot unbeleivable,,even with cheap ammo,,they are a bit rare,,but they are are around,,i have 2 and will always keep them,,best 22 i ever tried,,
 
I think the ns522 is a great option especially if you like to tinker. However if you want the s and l tradex does put guns on hold. Since there inventory is not predictable, if that's what you want i personally would call them now and select a model.
