Jerry, you have me sold. From all your posts I can tell you're a decent guy. I'm interested in the 4.5-30×56 but it's still over the horizon. I'll PM you when I'm ready.
Appreciate your kind thoughts and look forward to your enquiry....
With many 'mid range consumer' optics, keep in mind the amount of travel you get.. With ranges reaching beyond 300m, you are going to need a crap ton of elevation AND with some odd ball stages, you may need to dial BELOW your zero to make it work.
You also don't want to stuff into either end of travel as some scopes have issues operating at the extremes... so if you need 16 to 17mils of up, you better have at least 20mils... better 25mils to ensure you are working within the best part of the mechanicals and optics.
And some ELR stages could easily need 20 to 23mils of travel.
Yes, you can hold over... absolutely BUT if you are reaching out to your furthest targets in the wind, I much prefer to be centered in the reticle so I can hold off using the main horizontal in my reticle. After having to zoom back and forth up to 6mils of wind, precise aim will come in handy.
I choose not to compromise on my scopes especially when what I want is pretty much the same cost as ... not quite enough.
YMMV
