Hi , looking at replacing the barrel on my Savage 93 BRJ 22 WMR. Does anyone know where to get replacement barrels in Canada.
Thanks

If you're looking for a factory (Savage) replacement barrel, that's a question you'll have to direct to Savage. If you're looking for a custom barrel (Lilja, Shilen, Benchmark, etc...) you'll need to bring that in through an import service such as that offered by Prophet River, or those who have an import/export arrangement with the barrel maker (Such as Alberta Tactical and Lilja). Then you need a gunsmith to fit, chamber, and crown the blank for your rifle :)

Which is an incredible waste of money for a lowly Savage. You could just buy an Anschutz for the combined total of rifle, barrel and installation, and you would be lightyears ahead.

Original barrel is fine and accurate, just looking to go from a 21'' factory barrel with 1-16 twist to getting a barrel 24'' by 15'' twist

I'm afraid I'm in the same "why bother" camp on this one, but mostly due to how much money it would take to make it happen..and the resulting value of what you'd end-up with. Answers are "allot"...and "not that much". That said, not everyone I associate agrees with the gun-related decisions I make either...so whatever blows your hair back! :) A buddy of mine has used a gunsmith in Alberta, but if memory serves...he had to source the barrel himself. (a Bartlein, in his case) First job would be to find who makes the barrel/twist you're after, then get it in your hands. I'd also wonder whether or not gunsmiths doing this work would even have a .22WMR reamer.

On the off-chance your accuracy results are driving this decision....I'll add that I'm of the strong opinion it's not an inherently accurate caliber to begin with. I'm sure a great trigger and a primo barrel could only improve things, but I've never (personally) seen 22WMR shoot much better than about 1-1/4" @ 100 yards. The one I had only ever printed 1 or 2 groups smaller than an inch..and that's after trying at least 9 different ammo types. Average was 1-1/4"-1-1/2", of a steady bench and rest.

Before I hand loaded, I remember so many 17HMR ammo cost discussions and guys boasting about how cheaply (per loaded round) they could get their .223 ammo by making it themselves. I hated hearing that, but mostly because I knew very little about loading...and didn't think it would be something I'd ever do. I've been at it for years now, and it really shapes how you look at all calibers. It also gives you so much flexibility (bullet type, weight, speed). Bottom line~if you have a good budget, and are after accuracy with small .22 cal bullets..there are other options besides an expensive barrel upgrade on a budget-level gun/action. If that's the direction you want to go~your call.
