Rimfire Rifle Restrictions

Heard different stories here. For rimfire semi-auto sporting rifles is it ONLY OAL that matters for classification (not talking about so called scary looking AR types) or is it barrel length. Just want to be sure, if I'm all mixed up would appreciate the clarification.

There are no barrel length restrictions for rimfire long guns (handguns must be over 105mm), provided a barrel shorter than 18" was manufactured at that length and not cut down to it. OAL must be over 26" to remain non-restricted if you shortened it yourself. If manufactured at shorter than 26" OAL it can be non-restricted and less than 26" OAL.
