Rimfire shooting matches ?

the Terrace club shoots rimfires in the winter on IDPA style COF, and my local club will let you shoot rimfires anytime during our practice nights.... we follow the "shoot what you brung" Philosophy.

I think it was at the Wild Rose range where they held a Steel Challenge Match. I don't know whether they had a .22LR Division or not. I now .22LR Steel competitions are very popular in the US. IDPA is looking at how much interest there would be in shooting IDPA .22LR matches. I think the challenge will be to come up with a competitive sized target. This is based upon our experiences shooting .22LR in the winter.

there are Airsoft scale targets that are 1/3 size - 1/2 size.... both in cardboard and paper, and frankly paper woul not be to bad because you can staple them right over a standard size IDPA target as a backer.

I agree. The 1/3 size targets have merit as does the paper. I think next winter we may go try paper (11 x 8.5). If it gets to the point where HQ decides to have a .22LR Match format I suspect you will see one of the two options you suggest adopted. I have to say there is mixed feelings regarding a .22LR match format. Personally I am all for it. Stay Tuned.

we have had a couple of shooters start shooting IDPA using.22's.... the cost for them was minimal and it gave them a taste for the sport, now one guy has a beretta 9mm and the other has a spartan 1911.
we have also had a 8 year old shooting the same courses of fire with us using a sig Mosquito out of a leather holster/mag pouches his dad madefor him and he did pretty good.
.22's is where the sport should be headed to get people into it, youth groups, women, newbies and so on would benefit alot by allowing the.22's to shoot inthier own group... sort of like the BUG catagory. I am a strong supporter of .22's.

I would welcome the 22lr division in IPSC. Would be nice to save the $$ on ammo too.
that is why I started this post & I would love to compete but only in a rimfire format, with the cost of ammo these days and the fact that my job pays #### I can't afford to compete anymore. back in the day I could afford to shoot .38 & .45 but since I'm a home owner & feed a family of 4 and working for a #### wages.
This would be nice if this would grow into something like a steel challenge match, IPSC or IPDA rimfire class nation wide with a stock or open class for rimfire. it would get tons of new blood into shooting and I personally think it would be a big boost for all of us young & old. It could be done with both rimfire handguns & maybe a 10/22 speed class.
