I've been around shooting and hunting for over 40 years, but I am a newbie here. It is pretty obvious here in BC that hunter numbers are dwindling, and I assume the same is true with competitive shooting. Can anyone comment on the trend?

I have alway had a couple decent .22 bolt action sporter rifles for most of my practice shooting in preparation for hunting season. I mainly want to keep in practice for hunting and that is as good excuse as any.

I'm too old for competive shooting, but I sure would participate here if there were something like Rimfire Sporter Shooting that the CMP has going down south. FYI - the rules are at: http://www.odcmp.com/

Is anything similar happening here in BC or other parts of Canada? Thanks for any information.

I shoot a smallbore match in Michigan this year. The average age of the competitors was something like 60 years old. I brought the average down only being 46.

We had about 25 shooters I think out at the Provincials in BC this year for smallbore 3p. Had about 32 the year before. Overall those numbers are not to bad (although from what I have been told there were more way back...). There are many youth shooters though - in fact about 23 of those 25 were youth.

I run some rimfire matches in the rimfire forum - Usually get about 5 - 10 shooters. Unfortunately I have not been able to promote it much in the last couple of months but hopefully we can get some more shooters to participate in the next couple months.

Where abouts are you on the Island? Here in Parksville we run silhoutte, benchrest, military, and pistol shoots each month. They are very fun matches and we get shooters coming from Victoria, and some from Port Alberni (and inbetween these places) each month because of this reason. Silhouette is shot at 30 yards with .22lr, as is pistol, and the benchrest is shot at 100 yards (also .22lr). If you want more details send me a PM :)
