What would be a reasonable make/model of .22 lr for someone wanting to participate in small bore events.Have been watching this site for a potential purchase but don't know a thing about these guns.

For bolt action, I'm personally a big fan of the Brno Mod 1 and Mod 4. They work very well for me. You'll also find plenty of folks on here who will vouch for the Brno line.

Also, the newer CZ452 is well regarded by rimfire shooters on this board. I don't own one yet, but I have one on the way. (Actually, mine will be a CZ453 Varmint).:)

If you are looking for a smallbore rifle to shoot prone, there was an Anschutz prone rifle on the E&E forum the other day. For $600 you will not go wrong.

Rifle to be used for club bullseye and silhouette.Would prefer a bolt as I will be involving my daughters (hopefully) and it would make a safer choice.Already own several guns but want something smaller that I can enjoy more frequently.

I concur with what maynard and Catnthehatt on the anschutz 54 for sale. If i hadn't already purcashed a brno model 4 not 3 weeks ago i would have already purchased the anschutz.
contact the seller i think it is a model 1411 with prone rifle stock made in the 60's it might be a touch heavy for silhouette shooting but it is should be outstanding for accuracy. If it too heavy then a CZ silhouette model or american would be an option.

Brno or CZ (same thing) are super accurate and you can get them used or even new (CZ's) for reasonable prices. The Browning BL-22 is a very accurate lever, too for a few extra dollars, if you like levers. I'm sure you know that some of these competitions won't allow "target rifles", like the Anschutz, so I think the Brno (CZ) is the way to go.
I just agreed to buy a Brno ZKM-456 LUX for $300.00! Sweet deal, eh?

IMO That the Marlin Model 60 with tube mag 14 round is an amazingly accurate .22LR rifle, it is semi auto and is MORE accurate then a ruger 10/22 out of the box. Not to mention, half the price. Not to mention you have to spend $$$$ more money "$400+" to mod a ruger 10/22 to even come close to the accuracy of a Marlin Model 60.

It is, hands down, the best .22LR semi-auto for the money.
GET ONE!

EDIT TO ADD: I am sorry, I didn't see that you were looking for a bolt. Well, if you do decide on a semi auto, give that a try. Its a world famous rifle and has sold more then any other .22 semi auto rifle in the world!

CZ452 Varmint, for not much over $400 it's an amazing gun, shoots as well as my old $1500 Kimber bench gun.

And to the gentleman who said he's getting a 453, unless you plan on one off importing from the US, good luck. :) As of yet they are not imported into Kanuckistan. Wish they were... But then again I invested $100 into my 452 Varmint for an adjustable sear and lighter spring, now it's in the sweet ounces. :)

Cooey 60 , scoped up with a 12X I think could hold it's own against anything at a 100Yrds cheap to all said and done scoped would probly be under $200

If you could locate a 541S or early production 541T Remington, they will run with the best of them. The only downside is a decent one will set you back a fair chunk of change these days. Regards, Eagleye.

Savage has one that has caught my eye. The MKII FVT, it comes with heavy barrel, synthetic stock and aperture sights front and rear. Has anyone tried one out?
