Rimfires you WISH you'd bought....

Over 40 years ago I had the chance to trade my first rifle, a Marlin 39A for a Winchester Model 52 target rifle.
Passed on the deal. Just did not know the 52 would be worth a lot more today than the Marlin was then.

When I was first getting in to shooting about 8 years ago, I was in Ellwood Epps looking at Ruger 10/22's. They had a used one in synthetic folding stock with a Luepold VX3 4.5-14 for around $300 (if I remember correctly). I decided to get a new one instead. Little did I know (at the time) how much that scope was worth...

Update to my post about loosing a brand new issc mk22 for real cheap I got it talk about ment to be I almost lost it a secound time. Happy times awaiting

Ruger No.1-A in .22 LR... only 50 made... saw one 25 years ago in a shop while travelling... should have jumped on it.

Would like to see the article that confirms Ruger produced 50 1A rifles in 22 lr ?

What year were they manufactured ?

I'll pass the information on to the people who who maintain RENE.

RENE Red Eagle News Exchange (the bible ) for Ruger Collectors indicates zero produced.

No mention of Ruger manufacturing # 1 rimfire rifles in either J.D. Claytons book Ruger NO.1, which is very detailed or in R.L. Wilsons book Ruger & His Guns.

Custom #1 rimfires are out there.

A slightly rusted but otherwise beautiful Winchester 52. I didn't have the cash on hand at the time and if I'd been familiar with the model at the time I would have run to the nearest bank pretty fast!

Ok, here is the story on the No.1-A LR... In 1991 (so manufacture would be pre-91), we were vacationing in Florida. I always drop in to local gun shops when we travel to see if there might be a hidden jewel. I stopped in at a shop in Tallahassee and found a very nice collection of Ruger 77's and No.1's... one of the guns on the rack was a representative No.1-A with particularly nice wood, I picked it up and looked at the barrel stamp, and was shocked to see it stamped .22 LR... I have owned more than 40 No.1's over the years, mostly No.1-A's... I had never seen or heard of a factory No.1 in LR... I have seen a half dozen or so custom No.1's chambered for rimfire cartridges... all of these were clearly custom in their configuration... but this Tallahassee gun was a perfectly representative 1-A... 22" barrel with barrel band, express sights, quarter rail, factory-look crown, AH stock set... looked like every other 1-A. I asked the owner about the gun and he said that he had bought it in Scottsdale, Arizona and that it was "1 of 50" special employee guns... from that day to this, I never questioned that explanation... I know that Ruger has done many funky runs of unusual guns for employees, friends and family... I had no reason to doubt the information. I went back to the shop a second time and took another look at it... and I believe that the gun was an actual Ruger No.1-A, or a very expensive, and highly detailed custom No.1-A repro... that's all I have for you... at $750 I have wished many, many times that I had bought the gun... but if I had, I probably would have sold it at some point and I would be posting in the "Sellers Remorse" thread instead of here.
