ring height questions

I recently ordered a 30 mm scope tube with a 50 mm objective lens. I'm trying to order scope rings but am at a loss for which height.
Rifle is a savage mark 2 FV. Heavy barrel. Standard two piece bases.
I'd like to keep the scope as low as possible as I'm going to put it in a chassis

Medium-high for hvy BBL - possibly high if your chassis has a top rail and/or you need room for scope caps

Probably medium, but you should try and do a rough measure with bases/rail and scope

In my experience medium is ok for anything under #5 barrel contour. There are variables, and yes, certainly best to measure.

Easiest way to measure is to stack coins or shims between scope and receiver/rail and once desired height is reached measure your stack of shims.

I did some rough measuring from my 300 wm savage that wears a 50 mm objective and guesstimated the taper of the barrel. I ordered the .35" rings instead of the .55" and they work. I did have to cut the bikini cover
