Hey guys,

I've got a Remington 700 SPS Tactical, 20" barrel, and a couple of parts in my hands and on the way.

I'm on a limited timeframe, so I need to know if my equipment will work together before the rings arrive.

I've got a NightForce NXS 3.5-15x50mm in Badger Max50 Rings (Height to center of ring is .823") on a Badger 20moa base, with the above mentioned rings.

Is my scope going to clear the barrel, or do I need high rings (at a height of 1.125" to center of ring)?

Thanks,

Brad

Brad,

Your question is tough because not many people will have the exact same setup as you. I can tell you that I have medium rings on a 20 MOA mount and the 50mm objective side clears the barrel by like half a cm. Note that neither my rifle, mount or scope are the same as yours, though, so YMMV.

It'll make cleaning that part of the barrel a bit of a pain, so you might consider a QD mount.

Was that of any use?

Certainly was - and I understand that it's unlikely that someone will have the same setup, but probably fairly likely to find one that's close. :)

And, worst case scenario, I wait for everything to show up and check it out myself, though that means I pay the duty on the rings and can't just return them to sender (Brownells). Ohwells.

Thanks,

Brad

Cool.

A tip: put the Butler Creeks on before you install the scope on the rifle, will make things easier. I forgot to mention that the clearance is half a cm WITH the Butler Creeks ON. So if you don't have them, you have even less to worry about. I can provide you with pics, if you think you need one.

I think you'll be fine with the setup you ordered

I put a couple of balls of plasticine or silly putty on the rifle and then "bed" the scope into them. Remove and measure. The tricky part is that not all scope/ring manufacturers include measured drawings with their technical specifications.

Rick from Alberta tactical reccommends to his customers that are putting on a scope with a 50mm ob. rings that are at least .885. It's only a 1/16" difference.
That is also with a nightforce 20moa rail. I know this cause I just bought a set from him. Again, every rifle is different. I was thinking of doing the same setup as you, but changed my mind and went with NF.

You could also measure from the center of your scope to the bottom of your bell ( just don't touch the lense) and then factor in the height of the rings and base to the center and do some simple math. Should get you a ballpark figure.
