Ring Suggestion

I've been told by a US optics dealer that USO rings are made with sub-par aluminum. They recommended the Nightforce ones for the same price.

Id be curious to hear more about this

I just did a quick check and yes USO uses 6061 while TPS and Nightforce use 7075. I also checked Farrell but couldn't find the type of aluminum they use. I guess the question is if 6061 is worse then 7075 in this application, I couldn't tell you but I haven't heard anything negative about USO rings so far.

So long as they're well made/quality rings, 6061 vs 7075 is pretty irrelevant for that application, other than threads in 7075 would be a bit stronger. If you properly tighten them to the right torque, no issues either way.

Sub-par aluminium is not a grade thing... sub-par is chinese gummy garbage aluminium that doesn't meet any specs.

In all reality, you are not pulling a dump truck with your scope rings. Even the cheap chinese ones will do the trick, as long as the design of the cross bolt goes all the way from left to right. Some bad designs dont work this way and the ring may deflect and allow it to slip.

That being said, we all apreciate quality and like to buy the best we can afford, but I doubt many of us will blame our scope rings for the loose groups.

I like the Buris signature rings because you cannot damage the scope.

If you get the typical style just make sure you lap them and you will be fine.

The trick is to find a nice hardened piece of drill rod or thompson shaft to lap with.

Lapping compound you can get at Canadian Tire - valve grinding compound.

Your right, perhaps I should have said the aluminum used by US optics for their rings is of lesser grade than some of the other high end companies. I doubt there is anything wrong with them, but if you are paying the price they are asking, I would think one should expect nothing but the best. Still, they are pretty nice looking rings. I want to point out I own a US optic 1-4 that sits on my M14. I absolutely love it and it is extremely high quality so I'm not knocking the brand. I would just rather go with Badger or Nightforce for the same price or less.
