I have a new one on the way and would like any idea's on a good set of rings and bases for the Savage. I will be using for long range targets and varmints and will be mounting a new Monarch 5-20x 40mm with side focus and BDC reticle.

Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

I have an LRPV also and just used Leupold Mounts but have kept my shooting fairly limited thus far in range. I think Jerry is on the right track with the options he provided you especially if you want to push the rifle a little.

I have a set of Talley Lightweights, but they seem ridiculus on a 12 pound rifle :)

I have the same rifle now for two years. And I bought from Jerry a Farrell MOA one piece steel base and I got a set of TPS rings. And when I installed the base I bedded it and I also lapped the rings. Just because I never did that before and I have to say that this is the strongest set up I have ever had on a rifle and I highly recommend it.
I think next time I will get the burris rings as you can use the inserts to get you further down range. My Farrel base is 0 MOA but thats what I wanted at the time.
Good Luck.

Farrell are as good as they come. They are aslo a bit higher than some and thus you don't have to buy rings that are as high. They're all I use.
