Looking to mount some glass on a Rem 700 223 bolt gun.

I will be using one of a couple 1in tube 40mm obj scopes.

Want to make sure of ring height and base setup befor eordering.

Will medium height rings work properly with any base with these scope sizes??

Thanks

PS At what range does MOA become necessary on the base?
I don't plan on shooting past 500yds or so.

Pretty much guaranteed with a 40mm objective that medium rings will be more than enough. Might even be able to use low rings.

Needing a MOA base will depend on how much internal elevation the scope has.

Quick glance at a 223 ballistics chart shows you'll need about 11 minutes at 500 yards with a 100 yard zero so it's unlikely you would need a base with any elevation in it.

Mediums will work on any base, however, depending upon what base you're looking to use it may be too high for a proper cheek weld. Depends on what stcok you have and what your comfort level is as well. Personally, my preference would be for lows but YMMV.

rings

The gun is wearing a B&C tactical stock. It has a lil' bit higher comb than the oem stock. It's the style with a hook on the bottom.

I would like to get away with low rings if possible. I don't have a very big pumpkin and want to get the best cheek weld I can of course.

This is why I am trying to see if there is an established setup? This must be a pretty common setup....Rem700 in a BC tactical stock with a 1in 40mm obj?

Sorry for the Q.....despite shooting for more than 35yrs this is my 1st centrefire bolt gun!

Leupold dual dovetail 1 inch medium rings and bases work well with that scope... Perfect height.

Remington 700's have a high bolt handle and medium rings work better 95% of the time, I never use low rings anymore on 700's.
