Rings for Walther KKJ?

The only good rings that I could find for my Walther KKM were Warne 7.3/22 rimfire rings. They fit 11mm rail and the 3/8's. There was an issue finding good rings due to the size of the dovetail. I have two KKM rifles and one KKJ rifle. The dovetails appear to be identical.

We tried Leupold but they didn't fit quite right with the Walther scope dovetail. The Warne ones look great and fit well.

There's a picture and description on this site www.warnescopemounts.com/grooved_receiver_line.html

I can't find the box for the rings. I'll contact the gunstore where I had them mounted to find out the exact model/size of the dovetail you'll need. I can't remember if you need the 11 or 13mm dovetail. I'll double check for you.

Hey HeadDamage,
I checked with the store and the model number was W-721M. I used Warne's chart and verified that it's the 7.3/22 ring in Medium height (.400"), mat black. Since these rifles are German I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was mounted using the 11mm dovetail side :D rather than the 3/8". Unfortunately these are 1" rings only. That being said the Walther rifles deserve an elgant looking scope on them and the 1" does look better on a rimfire ;).

Just for height comparison. My KKM has a Leupold VXIII EFR 6.5-20x 40mm scope mounted on it. There's extra room under the barrel and the scope bell but it's a comfortable fit for a 40mm scope. I checked out an old 44mm Simmons that I have around and it looks like it would fit but just barely. You wouldn't be able to put a cap on the end without modifying it. This would be the closest you could get without the bell touching the barrel. Even then I guess it depends on the scope.

Anyways I hope that helps. Post some pics when you get a chance. Maybe start a Walther thread :D. I've obviously got the bug for them.

That fact that more guys don't seem to be into the older walthers is odd... they are great looking and fantastic shooting rifles. Mine was my Dad's and is the first firearm that I ever shot.

Here is a newspaper article from 1964 with my dad and his KKJ. This photo was taken a week before I was born. I still have the KKJ (and it still shoots great), plaque, and shooting jacket.

Here is one of the targets.

Very cool.
What ammo did he use?
I'm currently using Lapua Super club in my KKMs. I haven't shot my KKJ yet.

They used to shoot a lot of CIL match ammo back then. That was probably the only stuff that was available locally.

Mine shoots some of the cheaper ammo very well. I can't even begin to count the number of gophers that have succumb to my KKJ.

Back in the old days, they used to have turkey shoots at the sportsmans shows. My dad and his KKJ were banned from them because he used to win every year, and the rich doctors with their $2500 Anschutz target guns would pout.
