Ok, on an EGW 20MOA base for a savage 10FCP, mounting a falcon 4.5-18x56mm scope, would medium rings be ok? Or should I go with high?

And, which (affordable but decent) brand, and where can I get 'em?

:D

Here is what my Savage 10FP looked like with the Falcon 4.5-18x56 scope with the EGW 20MOA base and Burris XTR Medium rings.

Mediums will be fine :)

save the hassle, go with steel

It would be worst to buy aluminum and have to switch later on

What hassle? please...it's not like he's going over seas to the mountains for some kind of hard core mission.

He's probably shooting targets and aluminum rings will be fine.

No need to spend the money for steel rings when aluminum will suffice for 95% of the people on this site.
Get the burris XTR, they are excellent. Good price, 6 screws per ring to hold the scope on fine, and beefy. Nothing will go wrong with them.

I found a supplier who will provide me with the Burris XTR's and have ordered them. They cost a fraction of the price and if I find out they're crapola, then I've only myself to blame and will be out 50 + shipping.

I will be mostly shooting targets, but they may not be bench rest at a range.

depends of your use
I had a few aluminum rings crack in the cold (maybe over tightening and extreme cold made em crack), by few I mean two, from seperate sets

I reckon they were cheaply made, never had high end aluminum rings, went straight to steel after failure
