I bought a case of rio 12g target load. I'm having problems ejecting them out of my 11-87. It's so bad that when doing doules skeet, I put a federal shell in first and a rio in second. The rim on the brass seems rather sloped. Not as positive as other shotshells. Is anyone else having these problems?

Thanks.

Did you get the 1 ounce Rio's? The 11/87 Premier field gun I had was regulated for standard field loads and up if I recall the term they used. It would cycle 3 dram 1and1/8 oz loads reliably. 2 and 3/4 dram loads were sluggish cycling. 1 oz loads would not cycle the gun reliably.

Sorry, I don't have the shells in front of me. Sometimes they cycle and eject just fine. Other times, the shell is still more or less in the chamber and the bolt is lock open. It is as though the extractor is sliding past the rim on the shell. When comparing the rio with a federal, the rim on the rio is sloped or rounded and the federal has a much more positive edge on the rim. Its not a big problem, I was just wondering if anyone else had that problem.

Rios do have a slightly rounded rim profile. I had to have the extractor cut on my 870 16 gauge(recent manufacture) to reliably extract Rios. It was the same with Kent TM loads in that gun. The hulls were virtually identical. Good ammo but some guns don't like them. In a safe place chamber a round, point the muzzle down and by hand cycle the action just a little. See if the extractor lets the loaded round slip away during extraction. If that happens a gun smith can cut the extractor to give you more bite.

I think the problem is the 11 87, they only were designed to be a cheap gun, and with only one extractor( unlike the mossburg with 2 extractors) it will occasionally not extract. Just a bad design in my honest opinion.

Someone traded me a box of them and I shot them yesterday. About 60% of them didn't eject out of my Kolar. This is the only time I have ever had this problem. I've shot every other brand of shell through this gun and never ever had a problem in probably close to 100,000 shells.
