I bought a single shot 12g made by Riverside Arms Co. over the weekend and I am wondering if it would be safe to shoot slugs and high brass shot out of it. The barrel doesn't look like it is damascus. Is says *ElectroSteel*ChokeBored* but the barrel has been shortened slightly. Any help would be appreciated with this. I am hoping to make it into a little pack gun.

Probably one of the many shotguns manufactured in the early 20th century by Iver Johnson, Harrington Richardson, Hopkins and Allen etc. and sold under other names. Should be safe with modern loads if it is 2 3/4 inch chamber and not 2 1/2 inch as long as it is still tight. Personally, with these older guns, I like to stick with low brass loads.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure it is 2 3/4" but I will probably get a gunsmith to check it to make sure. I'd really rather not be putting a bomb to my shoulder.
