RMR: Duel or LED

Anyone with experience:

Going to top a FN 509 Tactical with a Trijicon RMR. Looking for opinions. Will be used for IPSC primarily but hey a pistol should be ready for anything....

My considerations:

ADJ. LED: No washout. Sharper dot I understand. Adjustability is able to be taylored. Cold weather effects batteries in extreme cold, like northern Sask. Red available.

DUEL: No battery. Will 100% function in the cold. Washes out from dark to light areas, though gun comes with Trijicon night sights, suppressor height. Not adjustable. Cheaper. Don’t need to remove sight to change battery thus no lose of zero.

Duel would be a Triangle and adj. would be a 6.0.

Just looking for opinions from anyone familiar before I drop 500+ on one.

Thanks in advance.

6 moa is a lil on the big side for IPSC, I was using one for uspsa would have preferred 3 moa. But I also have astigmatism and see the dot as a thick sideways bar lol.

I had a type 1 auto led but I sold it and much prefer the dual fibre. I have 2 of those, one on my fnx 45 and the other on my benelli. I don’t do ipsc, but I don’t feel hindered by the large 6 moa dot.

Ok that’s what I was looking for. So many articles and videos don’t like the duel but I just see advantages. No issues with brightness?

I tried the dual-illumination RMR and failed to see any advantage, as the aiming triangle was so faint in daylight conditions that it was useless. I went with the aadjustable LED and never looked back. The auto-brightness setting works very well, and the manual override works perfectly when extra brightness is required in strong sunlight conditions. I currently run 7 x Type 1 and Type 2 Adjustable LED RMRs and no dual-iilluminationn models. That ought to tell you everything you need to know....

Yup. That’s where I’m leaning. 1 MOA dot as well. Should handle everything I need.

I've had trouble with the LED model on a pistol. It shuts off randomly, which seems to be a battery connection issue. This is something that they supposedly addressed in the Type II models that are designed to handle pistol recoil a little better. I've played around with mine to make the battery a little tighter, and it seems too have fixed the issue. Just something for you to consider.

I still love the sight... I've got it on my G17 Zev build.

I would highly recommend NOT going with a 1 MOA dot. I would recommend a type 2 adjustable LED either the 3.25 MOA RM06 or 6 MOA RM07. The 6 MOA dot is my preference as it is easier to find and track in general and even more so in bright sunlight. More than small enough to make easy hits out to 50m and easy to acquire at close range. All of my ISPC matches have had no further that 30m targets mostly due to range constraints.

Didn't know there was even such a thing as a 1 MOA pistol dot; FWIW have a 3 MOA LED and it's very easy to see even in the brightest of sunlight (use in IPSC), can't imagine a need for a 6 MOA version.

Got the adjustable LED 3.25 MOA. Never had issue with the dot. Plenty visible in any condition. I just dont trust anything that is supposed to be auto adjusted.

This would fix your flickering issue as well: h ttps://www.weaponoutfitters.com/battlewerx-afs-plate.html
