Roaming Domestic Critters

The thread obout loose animals in the country got me thinking.

If there is no law that says you can harvest and no law that says you can't harvest (under the wildlfife act) a specific animal and it is not endangerd or protected (ex... free roaming buffalo that are not in a park or sanctuary like up here in Northern Ab), then what angle will the law come at you?

How many animals are there that fall under the no regs department?

Different from one province to the other eh?

Good question... I think you would have to be very carefull... I think if a Panda showed up in your backyard you might wanna think twice.
I personally have a lot of time and money invested in managing the property and wildlife on the properties I control. And I would not hesitate to kill anything that I considered a threat to my conservation efforts.
I would not shoot a protected species or anything that falls under the fish and game act unless I had a good reason... honest officer that cougar was trying to steal my baby...

I believe it will fall under prov. regulations. Here in Sask cattle , horses etc are clearly private property and shooting one would get you in legal trouble plus turning a land owner very anti huntig in hurry. In fact in some municipalities running cattle free durring part of the year is legal. It comes under the Herd Law . Exotics such as boar have been declared pests in some areas and open to extermination. In other cases the animals owner may have workable plans to recapture so has not given up ownership, shooting in those circumstances would be a no no. A lot has to do with wether the owner has exercised reasonable efforts to contain the animals.

I shot a buffalo near Highway 14 between Edmonton and Sherwood Park. F&G wouldn't help the fella that owned it since it was a domestic animal. RCMP wouldn't help him. Edmonton Police called me and I met them there and I hunted an area for about 3 hrs until I had a safe shot. One dead buff. Not an issue.
