How are Robs barrels never ordered one from him, but I am thinkink of getting one in 7mm for a long range gun? Have some good things about his work and his barrels, any have any work and barrels done from him?
Thanks
Elmer

I had him put one of his barrels on my 700. His work is awesome. I haven't shot that gun alot but what little I have I can say that there is no doubt with a tuned load it'll punch one hole all day.
But.......I waited 15 months to get my rifle back after I was told it would take 2 months. I'm really happy with the end product, and Rob was a super nice guy whened I talked with him on the phone but I don't think I could wait that long again for a build.
Maybe if you are just getting a barrel from him it may be alot quicker??

Mac Lennan barrells

I've got 3 of Robs guns.
One in .223 Rem, one 6 PPC and one in 6 BR
His barrells are wasted on bullets, the man makes artwork , everything he builds is extremely precise and exact.
My 11 yr old just shot one of Robs .223s this weedend at a 300 yd match and
scored 579/600 with it.
At 100 yds my PPC always prints 1 hole groups , the bad groups are as large as .250" good ones in the .1's
the 6 BR is so accurate you laugh after each bull at 6-800.

For the people that say they waited too long consider this, if someone phoned you everyweek saying " IS IT DONE YET" how much would you be looking forward to doing work for them.

I've never had any problems getting work done by Rob and I know alot of O.R.A shooters use his stuff. Yes he tends to work in batchs he does his set up and cuts the barrells in that caliber that are ordered if you get in during the time he's set up for your caliber the turn around can be quite quick.

If you get an order in when he's not set up for your caliber you can wait months.
BUT
is the wait worth it, absolutely !!

6 BR is for sale in the EE, i'm getting a new barrell in 6 BR as we speak to convert the PPC rifle from the pic.

I've never had any problems getting work done by Rob
Of course you live near him and can just walk in his place. It's a lot easier to get Rob to work on your guns if you're there in person. Found that out the hard way.

I'm not putting down Rob. He's a nice, friendly guy. I once a got a barrel in 2 weeks cause he happened to have it. Next time it took two years. Yes I called a few times. So what? Guess what, I moved on. No big deal, he has better things to do. I understand.

I agree, his barrels are top shelf, but so are Gaillard and Krieger.

Ice-Pick you shouldn't make blanket statements about events you know nothing about. I phoned Rob approximately 3 times over a 15 month period. Kept telling me he was busy with Palma matchs amd building rifles for Toronto Metro (I think that was the service??). I also offered to pay in full up front. Now I think Rob is a great guy and there is no doubt he makes amazing barrels but I was told 2 months ad it took 15.
Actually about 1.5mths before I got my rifle back I realized I told him the wrong barrel length. Rob said the barrel had already been contoured and fluted (Told him not a problem wasn't that big of a deal). When the gun arrived it was exactly how I wanted it. It would seem he went through more work to build me the gun I really wanted=great service.
Nothing against Rob or his barrels just warning the OP that he could have some waiting.

How long ago was it that you had work done? I would just like to know how some people tell you 2 months and then they turn around and sc#* you into 15 months of waiting, thats just not cool. Why cant they just tell you how long it will be and if you want to wait then its your choice. I would aslo like to hear a good reasons for the delays not preference of work.I hope I hear some other people having their work returned on time from Rob.
Thanks
Elmer

I am NOT about to get into any discussions about wait times or deadlines or defend the waiting periods some have experienced from Rob.Frustrating to wait for anything beyond what some would call a reasonable amount of time.
My comment is strictly regarding barrel performance from personal experience.I have always enjoyed superior performance on the barrels I purchased from Rob.

I recieved the gun end of may 2008, so one year ago. Prior to sending the gun a member mentioned they had a friend who at that time had been waiting 6 months, but I chose to have Rob do the work after he said it would take 2 months. Not sure how long the other members friend ended up waiting, I would imagine it was lengthy enough.
If you are just getting a barrel from him, give him a call and see if he has any made up. If so by all means buy one, if he doesn't then IMO I would talk to Obtunded or Mysticplayer about a krieger or shilen.
My next build will have one of these.

Rob has a loyal following of people that use his barrels and he makes some very good barrels, as do Canadians Ron Smith and Ted Gaillard. None of these guys makes a 7mm barrel better than the other: they have all made great and a couple of not-so-great barrels at one time or another.

Got a 6.5 barrel from Rob would buy another in a heartbeat. Might take a little while to get one but they are art work when you do. It is worth the wait.

I too have had a similar experience as most. I was quoted 4 months for a 13 twist barrel in 6BR. I sent my barrelled action to him and 14 1/2 months later I had it back. I have other target rifles in my closet to practice with so that made the time go by a bit. Plus I sent it in late October when the weather was getting too cold for my liking anyway.

Spring rolled around and I made my first call. Rob tells me that yes the rifle arrived, but he hadn't gotten around to work on it yet. I was surprised since it was about 5 months to the day that I had sent it and this was a month after the qouted time that it would be back in my hands....COMPLETED.

I checked in after another 3 months and he said he had started work on it, but the Super Shoot was coming up and that required more of his attention. I should check back in September......which I did. He tells me that he broke the trigger on my action but was kind enough to replace it with a highly modified factory trigger that he had given a good go-over......but still not done. I got the rifle back in late January just in time for my shooting comp.

I do agree with others that the wait is a bit too long. IMHO if the man can't handle the amount of work to meet quoted deadlines, then I would have preferred a more honest answer. That being said, the barrel is without question the most accurate I have ever shot. I have a 30 BR Shilen barrel that is quite new with about 300 rounds down the tube, where as my 6 barrel is up to 2000. The Maclennan barrel shows NO sign of slowing down yet. It easily holds its own to the Shilen. I clean approximately every 100 rounds or so and it takes very little to get that mirror shine back. Fouling is virtually non existant. His lapping job is outstanding. Words dont describe how pleased I am with this barrel and in time I will be proud as hell to have worn one out....but when the time comes, I will order one well in advance and maybe get another smith to spin it on.

Robs barrells are worth waiting for, I have one on my model 700 BDL varmint in 6ppc put on by Calvin Pritchard in Thunder Bay, took a year as he was building 50 BMG barrells for US Forces. The gun cuts 1 oddball hole all day my factory 6ppc can't match it.2nd barrell was a 35 cal for a custom 35 whelan built by Calvin Pritchard (tacdriver), took 2 years to get the barrell.I was informed of the weight by my gunsmith, no lies!! These barrells are made in Canada, please support are firearm manufactures don't drive them away.Remember we have few guys willing to do this work here, unlike the USA.Robs only one man, so if U need the barrell right away call to see if it is in stock. My next rifle project will have a Mcclenan barrell no mater the wait.Dale in T-Bay
