robertson composites

It is unfortunate. I hear bits and pieces about the closure. I have shot with and spent a bit of time with the new owner of the Robertson Composites moulds. I talked with him earlier this past week and unable to say for sure when he may be up and running. He is looking at a few different angles of the stock making process.

These things take time. I hope to be in Montana in June for a shoot if it is still a go and spend a bit of time with him.

Sometimes what we may have thought to be good business decisions turns around and bites us. At this time we have lost a great product and I am still wanting a few more stocks.

It is unfortunate to have lost a canadian stock maker Ian had a great product and I hope the new owner of the moulds does as good a job , any idea when he might start producing stocks.

I understand how long it can take to start up sometimes from second guessing certain things to life in general, I have been gearing up to make rifle barrels for some time now and am going through the same thing but I think I will be drilling by next weekend :D .

2.5 yrs later I'm beginning to think it's gone.
If I want to build a gun this year I have to move on.

coyote,
All the power to you. We need new Canadian barrel makers. The old ones are about to retire.
If I had the money I'd start the process myself, but borrowing is impossible for me unless I win the lottery.

Coyote, I'd like to hear how the barrel making turns out. I've thought about it myself but to set it up the way I'd like, seems hardly worth the investment. How big can you gundrill? might be worth advertising the service to machine shops.
I get the feeling we're a bit limited up here on the "proprietary barrel alloy " that most of the US makers claim to be using eh.

Coyote, wish I knew???? He really could not say. He bought a different home and moved. The place is HUGE. It has the residence on the main floor as well as the machine shop attached to it. Upstairs is to be the office space and stock making area. All under one roof. Again HUGE.

When I talked to him he is still in the process of setting up his machine shop. He is currently working on getting his CNC set up. That is about all I know at this time. He is a competitive shooter so he has an idea what people are looking for. He also wants to make wood stocks. I believe those will be along the lines of the current Robertson patterns.

Not to sure about that. I do not know 100% for sure, thru the grapevine, a few of our Canadian barrel makers got into a good batch of steel. What do I know for sure? What I have heard has been handed down info.

SND my drill will do about 38" deep and 1 1/2" diameter mostly suited for making barrels but possibly good enough for some gundrilling jobs.

Good barrel steel is also available for canadians you just got to get it from the right place :) .
I don't want to hijack this thread so I will start one once I get things going on the progress .

What technique for rifling? good news... I hope it takes off for you

Cut rifling to start and will see if I want to button as time goes on.
